What’s a Healthy Fish Oil Intake Amount to Have Daily?

When it comes to a daily fish oil intake level, many factors come into play. What is more important though than the actual amount you take is the quality of the oil itself. However much of a poor quality supplement you take, you will still receive little or no health benefits. Here’s how to avoid that.

As a rough guide, 1 or 2g a day is a good of a pure distilled oil, but it’s important to bear in mind the levels of omega 3 fats within the oil as these are the ones that provide all the benefits.

DHA and EPA are the two most effective ones with DHA recently being shown to provide most of the health benefits, so the first thing is to look at the individual amounts.

For example my fish oil intake is two capsules a day, each one containing 1000mg of oil of which 280mg is DHA and 120mg is EPA, so I get almost 1000mg or 1g of omega 3 a day.

You will find that most oils have a much lower level of DHA so it pays to find the ones with a 2:1 ratio of DHA to EPA otherwise you will not get the full benefits, especially where brain and heart health are concerned.

A quality oil will be molecularly distilled to remove the toxins from the fish unless it is proven to be completely free from any contamination. The only one today to have that distinction is the Hoki fish from New Zealand as the waters are still pristine.

Although it is not really possible to overdose on fish oil, there is little benefit in taking very high does which I have seen some companies advertise, like 10,000mg. After a certain point, the body has enough omega 3 and cannot use the rest so unless you have a serious pre-existing condition like heart disease or severe arthritis, the daily fish oil intake that I have shown is enough.

If you do have a severe condition then doubling the dose I have shown to 4 capsules a day should be enough.

So as you can see, many factors can influence the potential health benefits from this wonderful oil, with the daily fish oil intake being just one of them.

How Much Fish Oil is Optimal and What’s The Best Source?

With the ever growing awareness of the benefits of omega 3, how much fish oil one should take is perhaps the most common question, especially as there are no national guidelines to use. What’s more important really is the quality, so here are some tips and my recommendations for a daily dose.

How much fish oil is advised per day seems to vary greatly, but the optimal amount for the average person is around 2g a day, with 1g per capsule.

The omega 3 fatty acids that provide the health benefits are DHA and EPA, and recent research shows us that the DHA is responsible for most of the benefits. Our brains are composed of over 30% DHA fats to show just how vital it is!

Since our bodies cannot manufacture omega 3, and with over 90% of us being deficient in it, a daily distilled supplement is the best solution.

The one I take twice a day contains 280mg of DHA and 120mg of EPA in a 1000mg or 1g capsule to give you a guide.

For certain conditions like arthritis, you can take more quality oils a day, with four being normal for those with severe joint pain and studies have shown that some people are able to come of their prescription meds altogether, such is the power of fish oil on this condition.

Purity is essential and to make sure all the toxins from the fish are removed, any supplement you select should have undergone molecular distillation. This removes mercury, lead and other contaminants to leave only safe oil and is absolutely essential for younger children and pregnant mothers.

The very best fish species to use today are Hoki and Tuna as the mix of these two oils yields much higher anti-inflammatory properties to provide even more protection from heart disease and strokes.

I hope this article has shown you how much fish oil to take per day and the way to ensuring you only get the very best, free from any contaminants and high in the valuable DHA omega 3 fats.

Fact: Americans are overweight. Is dietary fat the reason? Previous generations often consumed higher percentages of dietary fat than many overweight people do today yet did not suffer from obesity. Despite eating low fat foods, the fat epidemic continues unabated. Why? One reason may be the decrease of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in the diet that is the result of the trend towards “low-fat” and red meat-free diets. Fat that is not used for energy production is converted into new

Discover The Minimum Daily Intake Of Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids From Fish Oils For Good Health

Most of us are aware now of the importance of getting enough omega 3 fats in our diets, especially as the body cannot make them. The minimum daily intake of essential fatty acids from fish oils however is not as important as the quality.

These fats are essential and the main ones are EPA and DHA. It is now recognized that DHA provides most of the benefits and should therefore be taken in larger amounts.

The minimum daily intake of essential fatty acids from omega 3 should be around 1g or 1000mg. Quality oils normally contain 1000mg of fish oil in each capsule or soft gel, of which at least 500mg is omega 3.

I would recommend the minimum amount of DHA to be 270mg per 1000mg capsule in order for you to get the maximum health benefits like prevention of heart disease, a healthy functioning brain and better mental health, lower cholesterol and an improved immune system to name only a few.

You should be aware that most fish oil supplements today contain very little DHA as it costs more than EPA to source and more to produce. Just check out the website or label to see the relative amounts.

The purity of the oil will also determine its effectiveness and molecularly distilled ones will have all the contaminants removed like arsenic and lead to leave only pure oil. The only exceptions are if the fish is proven to be pure and a certificate of analysis is provided to prove it.

If you select a quality product you will be meeting the minimum daily intake of essential fatty acids and can help to avoid many of the degenerative diseases later in life while enjoying more optimal health in the present.
